Haggai 1:1: God Is Here and He Is Speaking. Are You Ready to Listen? + July 8, 2017

Today could see you laugh or weep, curse the heavens, or bless the whole world. It could see you fall into the darkest sin or rise to unimagined righteousness. It could hold death for your family, sickness for your friends, good fortune for your enemy, or the opposite of all those. You could lose your reputation today or gain a better one. You could feast or find yourself hungry. You might be alive when the stars appear tonight. You might not be. All your plans could through or none of them, like a breeze carries the morning fog to places the mist doesn’t choose. Boast of nothing. Of what can you be confident, then? Your Father’s love. Turn to Me, He says. I am faithful. I promise: though the world is changeable, carrying you where you didn’t expect, My goodness is in every place. I will help you find it and learn to rest forever in My hand. Father, You know my past, present, and future. Help me to put no confidence in myself and reject boasting. Let me expect nothing of life except to know You better and love You fully, regardless of my circumstances. Amen. + Paul J. Pastor, The Listening Day: Meditations on the Way

Bible Passages | Haggai 1:1

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those
Who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil.
(For Thine is the Kingdom,
The power and the glory now and forever and ever. Amen.)
+ Matthew 6:9-13

This Is the Day
By Bob Fitts
2014 A.D.

This is the day
That the Lord has made!
I will rejoice and celebrate!
This is the day
That the Lord has made!
I will rejoice,
I will rejoice and celebrate!

He goes before me,
He walks beside me,
He lives within me,
He's the lover of my soul!
He's my Defender,
He's my Provider,
His overflowing mercies
Are brand new every day!

Let Justice Roll
By Sojourn Worship
2015 A.D.

Forgive us Lord, for passing by
When children cry for bread.
Forbid it Lord, that justice lies
In tatters, cold and dead.
Outside these walls run desperate streets
Where greed is law and life is cheap.
We bar the doors, refuse to see,
Or hear the words You said:

Let justice roll like a river,
Like a river, let it roll!
Let justice roll like a river,
Like a river, let it roll!

Convict us Lord, we dance and laugh
Ignoring those who weep.
Correct us Lord, our golden calf
Has lulled our hearts to sleep.
The gap between the rich and poor
Grows ever wider, shore to shore.
There’s racial hate, religious war
And wolves among the sheep.

Indwell us Lord, and purify
Our hands to work for You.
Enlist us Lord, to serve nearby
And ʻcross the waters, too.
Your image-bearers on the earth
Will never know how much theyʼre worth
Unless we love and help them first
And show the way to You!

When the ground beneath my feet gives way,
And I hear the sound of crashing waves,
All my world is washing out to sea.
I'm hidden safe in the God who never moves,
Holding fast to the promise of the truth
That You are holding tighter still to me.

The Rock won't move and His word is strong,
The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone!
The Rock won't move and His word is strong,
The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone,
The Rock of our Salvation!

My hope is in the promise of Your blood,
My support within the raging flood,
Even in the tempest, I can sing!
I'm hidden safe in the God who never moves,
Holding fast to the promise of Your truth
That You are holding tighter still to me!

Woah, Woah, Woah, the Rock of our salvation!

On Christ the Solid Rock we stand,
All other ground is sinking sand,
The Rock won't movethe Rock won't move!
When darkness seems to hide His face,
We rest on His unchanging grace,
The Rock won't movethe Rock won't move!

Great Are You Lord
By All Sons and Daughters
2013 A.D.

You give life, You are love,
You bring light to the darkness.
You give hope, You restore
Every heart that is broken.
Great are You, Lord.

It's Your breath in our lungs,
So we pour out our praise,
We pour out our praise.
It's Your breath in our lungs,
So we pour out our praise to You only.

All the earth will shout Your praise,
Our hearts will cry, these bones will sing,
“Great are You, Lord!”
