Hebrew Series: Jesus is Greater  | Sunday, March 8, 2015 – We Will Draw Near to God Because Jesus Drew Near to Us with Genesis Church in Woburn, MA

This past Sunday, Emmaus City was invited to worship with Genesis Church in Woburn, Massachusetts, and Pastor Mike Sullivan had the privilege to share a message in their Hebrews series, "Jesus is Greater," during the 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 5 p.m. services. This message connects well with Emmaus City's current series on 1 Peter: "The Hope of Humble Holiness for the Sake ofthe World." To hear and watch the message, you can click on the image above or on the link, We Will Draw Near to God Homily Video and Audio. Also, I encourage you to listen to each of the songs below as they share key phrases and themes with the passage from Hebrews.

Scripture Text

Key Verse

"Jesus is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since He always lives to make intercession for them." Hebrews 7:25 (ESV)

Homily Summary

Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the most high God. What a name. What a title. Melchizedek means king of righteousness. And better yet, He's also the king of Salem, which means shalom - God's flourishing, overflowing peace. What kind of person gets addressed like this in the great story of God? And better yet, if Jesus is even greater than Melchizedek, how much more do we need to know Him and ask for His reign of righteousness and shalom to meet us and heal us in the battlefields of our lives? Could we dare to put our trust in this Great High Priest, this King of kings who dares comes to us and offer us a better hope than anything or anyone else we could run to, a greater peace than we could ask for or imagine?
