10 Songs for Participating w/ Jesus and Others on the Mission of God
Recently the lack of known songs and hymns focused on the missio Dei was brought up at a church planting collective I participated in last week in North Adams, Massachusetts.
For anyone curious, “missio Dei” is Latin for “mission of God,” which encompasses the Story of God from creation to new creation found in the Bible. God invites us to participate with Him in what He is doing to bring redemption and restoration in His world. We get to do this through His life-giving Spirit He freely gives us as we witness to His work in and through Jesus to rescue and redeem children, women, and men from every tribe, tongue, and nation. Along the way with each other, we get to become more like Him, and in the big and small transformations, we pray and live towards our neighborhoods, villages, towns, and cities becoming more full of people who are merciful; who mourn with those who mourn and rejoice with those who rejoice; who hunger and thirst after right relationship with God, each other, and creation; who do justice; who grow in purity of heart, words, intentions, and actions; who lovingly sacrifice for others; and who suffer being misunderstood like Jesus was for the sake of His Good News being shared wherever we live, work, play, and rest.
In gathering a collection for those hope dealers throughout Massachusetts to consider, I also wanted to share these songs with you today in case God might want to use them to orient you and those you know to His heart for the nations and the world in the months to come with some of these lyrics and melodies.
