Gospel Message begins at 46:20 minute mark, ends at 9:30: 30+ minutes |
Give us courage to embrace the truth about ourselves and you and our world. Truth: We are all made in your image. Truth: You are God; we are not. You are God; money is not. You are God; jails, bombs and bullets are not. And give us faith to believe: Redemption of people, relationships, communities and whole nations is possible! + MLK Prayer

U2, 1983 A.D.
I waited patiently for the Lord,
He inclined and heard my cry.
He brought me up out of the pit,
Out of the miry clay.
I will sing, sing a new song,
I will sing, sing a new song.
How long to sing this song?
How long to sing this song?
How long, how long, how long,
How long to sing this song?
He set my feet upon a rock
And made my footsteps so firm.
Many will see,
Many will see and fear.
(Chorus)
Prayer of Confession + Assurance
Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me, a sinner ...
O Lord, our hearts are heavy with the violence of our world,
so much suffering through the ages,
wars and holocausts, genocide and abuse.
We cry on behalf of our violent world:
Lord, have mercy.
O Lord, You love and care for us as a parent;
You came to share life with us as a brother.
But we confess we have failed to live as
Your children and instead have broken many bonds.
We cry on behalf of our violent world:
Lord, have mercy.
O Lord, You have called us to live together in community,
to consider one another as brother and sister,
regardless of ethnicity, economic status, or popularity.
Yet we prejudge one another, refuse to love one another, and victimize one another.
We cry on behalf of our violent world:
Lord, have mercy.
O Lord, Giver of all life,
You fearfully and wonderfully made us and breathed into our
nostrils the breath of life.
Yet we endanger the lives of one another,
abuse the lives of young children among us,
destroy those who are defenseless, and
oppress those who are powerless.
We cry on behalf of our violent world:
Lord, have mercy.
Pardon us through Jesus Christ, our Savior.
Amen.
(We turn to Jesus) He will wipe away every tear from our eyes and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore for the former things have passed away. And He who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new ... these words are trustworthy and true.” + Revelation 21:4-5
Zach Williams, 2016 A.D.
If you've been walking the same old road for miles and miles,
If you've been hearing the same old voice tell the same old lies,
If you're trying to fill the same old holes inside,
There's a better life, there's a better life!
If you've got pain, He's a pain taker!
If you feel lost, He's a way maker!
If you need freedom or saving, He's a prison-shaking Savior!
If you've got chains, He's a chain breaker!
We've all searched for the light of day in the dead of night.
We've all found ourselves worn out from the same old fight.
We've all run to things we know just ain't right,
But there's a better life, there's a better life!
(Chorus)

Sermon Song Reference | "Ain't Too Proud to Beg"
by Temptations
"I know you want to leave me, but I refuse to let you go ...
Now I've got a love so deep, in the pit of my heart
and each day it grows more and more.
I'm not ashamed to come and plead to You ... "
Sermon Quote | MLK
Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.
2001 A.D.
Deep, way down!
Deep, way down!
Deep down in my heart!
I've got the Love (Peace, Joy),
I've got the Love (Peace, Joy) of Jesus
I've got the Love (Peace, Joy),
I've got the Love (Peace, Joy) of Jesus
I've got the Love (Peace, Joy),
I've got the Love (Peace, Joy) of Jesus
And it's deep down in my heart!
May God’s love sustain you,
and may you love those who surround you.
May God’s Spirit empower you,
and may you empower all those you meet.
and may you empower all those you meet.
May God’s joy fill your hearts,
and may this joy overflow to the ends of the earth
for God’s glory, now and forever.
