2014 Thriving Frequency Conference | The Anthem by Planetshakers performed by DOXA from Epiphany Fellowship

Emmaus City Worcester MA Acts 29 Soma 3DM Multiethnic Urban Network of Missional Communities

2014 Thriving Frequency Conference with Eric Mason, D.A. Horton, Jerome Gay and more at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA from October 17-18

Last year, some folks from Emmaus City had the privilege to spend a weekend in Philadelphia at the 2013 Thriving Summit, hosted by Epiphany Fellowship. This year was just as powerful and they added in some breakout sessions as well. One thing that was also different was that Thee Apprentice, a spoken word poet, was the MC. After a passionate welcome, Thee Apprentice shared one of his poems, "Who am I?" You can now watch him perform, as well as read the lyrics, on our website:

While that poem set the tone for much of what was to come, so did another aspect that I love about being together with Epiphany Fellowship at the Thriving Conference every year. Before the first speaker began, DOXA, Epiphany Fellowship's worship in song team, led us through a powerful set. And there is literally no one else like DOXA in leading people in praise to our God.

In their "Doxa-Mentary", Eric Mason describes their approach as:

"'Doxa' is the Greek word for glory. It's connected to the Old Testament word and definition in the New Testament to the word 'Kabod' which means 'glory'. ... The reason why we chose the name 'Doxa' is because the word for glory has two facets to it. Number one is it's an attribute of the living God. Number two ... it has a verbal aspect of our disposition towards God. We glorify him. So we wanted to be able to capture both of those ... (with) a fusion of jazz, gospel, soul, neo-soul, R&B, even sometimes CCM, and merging some of that stuff together and writing and creating and even adapting songs ... "

I love everything about this description, and the best way I can describe worshiping with them is like joining with a small, but passionate Gospel choir with a percussive rock and jazz band led by a humble James Brown. Imagine that with a crowd of many ethnicities powerfully joined together as one in worshiping the King of kings.

Epiphany Fellowship DOXA leads the 2014 Thriving Frequency Conference through Planetshakers' "The Anthem"

The song they introduced to me this year that left an incredible mark on me is one they adapted. Unfortunately, I don't have a link to what Doxa's version of "The Anthem" sounds like, but this clip provides a taste, particularly the moments between 2:34 2:56.

The Anthem by Planetshakers

What a way to begin learning about how to follow Jesus in the city. There were many more songs they led us in that left me emptied and filled, but for now, here is the full version of this song, followed by the lyrics.

The Anthem (Full Song) - Planetshakers [Lyrics Video]

By His stripes, we are healed!
By His nail-pierced hands, we’re free!
By His blood, we’re washed clean;
Now we have the victory!

The power of sin is broken,
Jesus overcame it all;
He has won our freedom,
Jesus has won it all!

Hallelujah!
You have won the victory!
Hallelujah!
You have won it all for me!

Death could not hold You down!
You are the risen King!
Seated in majesty,
You are the risen king!

Our God is risen, He is alive,
He won the victory, He reigns on high!
