It was a joy and honor to spend this past Sunday with Genesis Community Church again in Woburn, MA. If you'd like to listen to the message, "King Jesus Begins and Finishes with Us," I had the privilege of sharing, you can click on the link or the image above. On this page on Genesis' website, you will also find a discussion guide for going through the message that the Genesis team has thoughtfully put together.

Citizens | Philippians 1:1-11 | King Jesus Begins and Finishes with Us
1:1 Paul and Timothy, slaves of Christ Jesus: To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, including the overseers and deacons. 2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 I give thanks to my God for every remembrance of you, 4 always praying with joy for all of you in my every prayer, 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. 6 I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. 7 It is right for me to think this way about all of you, because I have you in my heart, and you are all partners with me in grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and establishment of the gospel. 8 For God is my witness, how deeply I miss all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus. 9 And I pray this: that your love will keep on growing in knowledge and every kind of discernment, 10 so that you can approve the things that are superior and can be pure and blameless in the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God.
1:21 For me, living is Christ and dying is gain.
Main Theme: Paul's confidence is that this God of grace and peace, King Jesus Himself, is a beginner and finisher. This work in Philippi, and in us, is a work of undeserving love (grace) through the Good News of King Jesus' reign of making things whole and new (peace).
E:60: "Catching Kayla" Documentary Video
Kayla:
"I want to run. I want to run fast. And I don't want to hold back. I wanted someone to hold me accountable."
"It makes me feel whole. It's difficult to live with a disease when your body is fighting itself. When I'm running, I feel like I'm battling that. I feel like I'm safe from myself."
"I just hope to run as long as I can, to make the most out of it as long as I can. If I'm not able to run some point down the road, at least I can look back and know that when I could, I gave it my all."
Lecrae "Fear" Lyric Video
" ... I'm scared of falling and failing in front of all of my foes
And I feel some friends are unfaithful
So, I keep my small circle closed
I don't want no handouts or favors, no functional saviors
I'm a tell that truth ‘til it kill me and I'm chilling with my Creator
Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!
To all of my haters
For the ones that think I forgot Him
And the ones who won't let me say Him
I ain't scared no more ... "
What happened to the church in Philippi?
“And I also rejoice because the firm root of your faith, famous from the earliest times, still abides and bears fruit for our Lord Jesus Christ, who endured for our sins even to face death.” – Polycarp (69-155 A.D.), The Letter of Saint Polycarp, Bishop of Smyrna, to the Philippians, early second century (100s A.D.)
Polycarp, with Clement and Ignatius of Antioch, was regarded as one of the three chief Apostolic church fathers. He was a disciple of the Apostle John and died a martyr, bound and burned at the stake, then stabbed when the fire failed to touch him.
Songs:
"Lord, I Need You" Lyrics by Matt Maher
Original by Chris Tomlin
2011 A.D.
Lord, I come, I confess,
Bowing here, I find my rest.
Without You, I fall apart.
You're the One that guides my heart.
Bowing here, I find my rest.
Without You, I fall apart.
You're the One that guides my heart.
Lord, I need You,
Oh, I need You,
Every hour I need You!
My one defense,
My righteousness,
Oh, God how I need You!
Oh, I need You,
Every hour I need You!
My one defense,
My righteousness,
Oh, God how I need You!
Where sin runs deep,
Your grace is more.
Where grace is found is where You are.
Where You are, Lord I am free!
Holiness is Christ in me!
Your grace is more.
Where grace is found is where You are.
Where You are, Lord I am free!
Holiness is Christ in me!
(Chorus repeat)
Teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way.
When I cannot stand I'll fall on You.
Jesus, You're my hope and stay!
When temptation comes my way.
When I cannot stand I'll fall on You.
Jesus, You're my hope and stay!
"The Rock Won't Move" Lyrics by Vertical Church Worship
2013 A.D.
When the ground beneath my feet gives way,
And I hear the sound of crashing waves,
All my world is washing out to sea;
I'm hidden safe in the God who never moves
Holding fast to the promise of Your truth.
You are holding tighter still to me.
Oh, the Rock won't move and His word is strong,
The Rock won't move and His love can't be undone,
The Rock of our salvation.
My hope is in the promise of Your blood,
My support within the raging flood.
Even in the tempest, I can sing.
I'm hidden safe in the God who never moves
Holding fast to the promise of Your truth
You are holding tighter still to me.
(Chorus Repeat)
On Christ the solid rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
The Rock won't move.
And when darkness seems to hide His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace.
The Rock won't move.
No, the Rock won't move.
(Chorus Repeat)
"Mercy" Lyrics by Matt Redman
2013 A.D.
I will kneel in the dust
At the foot of the Cross
Where mercy paid for me.
Where the wrath I deserve,
It is gone, it has passed.
Your blood has hidden me.
Mercy, mercy,
Where mercy paid for me.
Where the wrath I deserve,
It is gone, it has passed.
Your blood has hidden me.
Mercy, mercy,
As endless as the sea.
I'll sing Your hallelujah
I'll sing Your hallelujah
For all eternity.
We will lift up the cup
And the bread we will break,
Remembering Your love.
We were fallen from grace,
But You took on our shame
and nailed it to a Cross.
We will lift up the cup
And the bread we will break,
Remembering Your love.
We were fallen from grace,
But You took on our shame
and nailed it to a Cross.
(Chorus repeat)
May I never lose the wonder,
Oh, the wonder of Your mercy!
May I sing Your hallelujah,
Hallelujah, Amen!
