Is There Grace for Government? | Honoring Temporary Reigns Under the King's Eternal Reign (Rom. 12:21-13:7) + Sunday, September 30 w/ Restoration Community Church

How do we honor our temporary imperfect governments as we wait for and trust in the Prince of Peace who is bringing His perfect reign of mercy, justice, hope?

The people of God have an opportunity in the midst of our cultural moment to create civility in the public square. We are called by God to love our neighbour and our enemy, to embrace rather than demonize those whom we disagree with. + Rick McKinley, Faith for This Moment

When we pray for God to bring His Kingdom, it is in and among this world. The question is whether we are participating in it. And if it is genuinely a Kingdom of the cross, it will be a Kingdom unlike this world in its use of power, concept of leadership, inclusion of the useless, regard for the poor, rejection of idols, etc. This Kingdom will challenge the kingdoms of the world even as it offers an alternative to them, just as Jesus did and does to us today. And, of course, if we follow Jesus' lead today, we will be rejected and persecuted even as He was. So when people in this world are loyal to Jesus’ Kingdom, we learn to become bilingual as we operate in the kingdoms (i.e. political, economical, global) of this world. We are ambassadors for His Kingdom in that our loyalties, aims, political conviction belong to Jesus even as we navigate life in the political realities of this world. + Sharad Yadav, Bread & Wine

It could be easy to throw up your hands and say, “Look what the world is coming to ... ” But what if we're called to something more. What if we're supposed to be Jesus’ Church who instead say, “Look who has come into the world, and look at what He is at work to do”? + Tim Gray

Questions as You Consider Jesus

Are you curious? Consider asking someone a question or two about Jesus and Christian spirituality even if you don't believe.

Are you open? Consider your emotional and spiritual needs, and step into asking if Jesus can meet them and help you.

Are you searching? Consider exploring more about Jesus even if you are not sure who He is; example: "If I could ask Jesus one honest question that would help me trust Him, what would I ask?"

Are you beginning to believe? Consider how your life would be transformed if you followed Jesus. Ask God to help you understand the Good News that through Jesus' life, death, and resurrection, He is restoring everything sin has ruined in your life and in the world.

Prayers of Preparation for Eucharist
Matthew 26:26-291 Corinthians 11:23-26

Prayer seeking more from Jesus
Jesus, You claim to be the Way,
the Truth and the Life.
If what You claim is true,
please reveal to me who You are.
Give me an understanding of You
that is clear and convincing. Amen.

Prayer for Communion with Jesus
Jesus, grant that we may be filled
by You, the true Bread and Vine.
Be present with us, strengthen us,
and empower us to be Your witnesses
together as we seek first Your Kingdom
until You return and make all things new. Amen.

All the Poor and Powerless
All Sons and Daughters, 2011 A.D.

All the poor and powerless,
And all the lost and lonely.
All the thieves will come confess,
And know that You are holy.
And know that You are holy.

And all will sing out, "Hallelujah!"
And we will cry out, "Hallelujah!"

All the hearts who are content,
And all who feel unworthy.
And all who hurt with nothing left
Will know that You are holy.
(Chorus)

Shout it, go on and scream it from the mountains,
Go on and tell it to the masses, that He is God!
(Chorus)

Break Every Chain
Tasha Cobbs, 2013 A.D.

There is power
In the name of Jesus;
There is power
In the name of Jesus;
There is power
In the name of Jesus
To break every chain,
Break every chain,
Break every chain!

All sufficient sacrifice,
So freely given,
Such a price
Bought My redemption,

Heaven's gates swing wide.
There's an army rising up!
There's an army rising up!
There's an army rising up
To break every chain,
Break every chain,
Break every chain!

Here's My Heart
Lauren Daigle, 2015 A.D.

Here's my heart, Lord,
Here's my heart, Lord,
Here's my heart, Lord,
Speak what is true.

I am found, I am Yours,
I am loved, I'm made pure,
I have life, I can breathe,
I am healed, I am free.

(Chorus)

You are strong, You are sure,
You are life, You endure,
You are good, always true,
You are light breaking through.

(Chorus)

You are more than enough!
You are here, You are love!
You are hope, You are grace!
You're all I have, You're everything!

(Chorus)

What a Beautiful Name
Hillsong United, 2016 A.D.

You were the Word at the beginning,
One With God the Lord Most High.
Your hidden glory in creation
Now revealed in You our Christ.

What a beautiful (wonderful) name it is,
What a beautiful (wonderful) name it is,
The Name of Jesus Christ, my King.
What a beautiful (wonderful) Name it is,
Nothing compares to this.
What a beautiful (wonderful) Name it is,
The Name of Jesus.

You didn't want heaven without us,
So Jesus, You brought heaven down.
My sin was great, Your love was greater,
What could separate us now.
("Wonderful" Chorus)

Death could not hold You,
The veil tore before You,
You silenced the boast of sin and grave!
The heavens are roaring
The praise of Your glory,
For You are raised to life again!
You have no rival, You have no equal!
Now and forever, our God reigns!
Yours is the Kingdom, Yours is the glory,
Yours is the name above all names!

What a powerful name it is,
What a powerful name it is,
The Name of Jesus Christ, my King.
What a powerful Name it is,
Nothing can stand against.
What a powerful Name it is,
The Name of Jesus.

You Are Good
Israel & New Breed, 2014 A.D.

Lord, You are good and Your mercy endureth forever,
hallelujah!
Lord, You are good and Your mercy endureth forever,
hallelujah!

People from every nation and tongue
From generation to generation ...

We worship You, hallelujah, hallelujah!
We worship You for who You are!
We worship You, hallelujah, hallelujah!
We worship You for who You are!
And You are good!

You are good, all the time,
And all the time, You are good!
