Abide in Jesus Series Special: Your Humble King Has Come (Palm Sunday Weekend) + Saturday, April 8, 2017

Céad míle fáilte! Welcome! Bienvenido! Akwaaba! Mirë se vjen! خوش آمدید Bem-vindos! 歡迎光臨!

We have the privilege to love and serve this city as His Church – His family of servants and ambassadors – in multicultural communities who are learning how to humbly follow Jesus in every area of life, to graciously love our neighbors, and to generously serve our city for the glory of God and for the life of the world. Emmaus City welcomes you and invites you to hear and respond to the gospel, the history-altering, world-changing, life-transforming good news that Jesus is King – our Savior, Healer, Redeemer, Reconciler, Champion, Friend – and that He is bringing the joy and justice of God's Kingdom to Worcester.

God will never be faithful to fulfill the lies about Him that we’ve believed. He only fulfills His promises. + A.J. Swoboda, A Glorious Dark

Today, you may think God and Christ and Christianity are like the emperor with no clothes walking through city streets while the crowd cheers on foolishly. And in some ways, you are right. But this King of all empires knew He would be paraded naked through the streets. And He knew the crowd cheering would change to a crowd mocking. And the robe He wore would be taken by those who beat Him so that He would be paraded naked through the streets. And the friends who said they would never deny Him deserted. But He still came! And He humbly brought with Him peace and victory.

Jesus’ Prayer for His Disciples
Matthew 6:9-13

Our Father in heaven,
May Your name be kept holy.
May Your Kingdom come.
May Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread
And forgive us our sins
As we have forgiven those
Who sin against us.
And don’t let us
Yield to temptation,
But rescue us
From the evil one.
(For Yours is the Kingdom,
The power and the glory forever. Amen.)

We Have Come (Bless the Lord)
By Will Reagan and United Pursuit Band
2010 A.D.

We have come to give You glory!
We have come to give You praise!

You’re welcome in this place!
You’re welcome in this place!
You’re welcome in this place!

Have Your way, have Your way,
Have Your way!

Bless the Lord, oh my soul,
And let all that’s within me shout out!

It’s only You we want.

Psalm Reading
For God is the King
of all the earth;
sing praises with a psalm!
God my King is from of old,
working salvation
in the midst of the earth.
+ Psalm 47:7, 74:12

By West Coast Revival
Original by St. Francis of Assisi
Early 1200s A.D.

All creatures of our God and King
Lift up your voice and with us sing
“O praise Him! Allelujah!”
Thou, burning sun with golden beam,
Thou, silver moon with softer gleam.
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Allelujah! Allelujah! Allelujah!

Let all things their Creator bless
And worship Him in humbleness.
O praise Him! Allelujah!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son
And praise the Spirit, Three-in-One.
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Allelujah! Allelujah! Allelujah!

All the redeemed washed by His blood
Come and rejoice in His great love.
O praise Him! Allelujah!
Christ has defeated every sin.
Cast all your burdens now on Him.
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Allelujah! Allelujah! Allelujah!

He shall return in power to reign
Heaven and earth will join to say
O praise Him! Allelujah!
Then who shall fall on bended knee?
All creatures of our God and King
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Allelujah! Allelujah! Allelujah!
Michael Bleecker

In my place,
He stood condemned.
He Who knew no sin
Became sin for us
That we may become,
His righteousness.

Bearing all my sin and shame,
The punishment and blame,
He conquered the grave
That we may become,
The heirs of grace.

In my place, Jesus died,
The spotless Lamb laid down His life.
The wrath of God was satisfied,
In my place, Jesus died.

Nail pierced hands, bleeding side,
His body bruised, my God crucified!
A crown of thorns, dying cries,
His flesh was torn, my God crucified!
Hallelujah, what a Savior!

The blind won't gain their sight
By opening their eyes.

A king is coming to this city
And crowds are following.
If I could see, I would follow, too.
He heals the sick with His hands,
As He walks by, they reach for Him.
If I could see, I would reach out, too.

The blind won't gain their sight
By opening their eyes.

Son of David, have mercy on me!
Son of David, have mercy on me!
Son of David, I want to see!
Son of David, have mercy!

I cannot leave this gate
Since I can not see my way;
But I can stand and call His name.
No, I could never leave this gate,
But I will stand and shout His name,
And I will count on His grace!
(Chorus)

I was blind! Now I see!
Jesus saved me!

Salvation sounds a new beginning
As distant hearts begin believing.
Redemption's bid is unrelenting,
Your love goes on, Your love goes on!

You carry us, carry us
When the world gives way!
You cover us, cover us
With Your endless grace!

Your love is relentless (x4)!

The time is up for chasing shadows,
You gave the world the Light to follow,
A hope that shines beyond tomorrow,
Your love goes on, Your love goes on!
(Chorus)

Tearing through the veil of darkness,
Breaking every chain, You set us free!
Fighting for the furthest heart You gave
Your life for all to see!

You carry us, carry us
(Your love is relentless)!
You cover us, cover us
(Your love is relentless)!

The dark is groaning,
The tomb is reaching out.
Oh, but they can't have me!
Oh, but they can't have me!

The crows are circling,The jackal waits in the dark.
Oh, but they can't have me!
Oh, but they can't have me!

I belong to the
Land of the rising Son
Where the grave is no more,
The war has been won!
I belong to the Land of the rising Son,
I belong to You, I belong!

The world is in my bones,
It makes me wrestle with You.
Oh, but You have claimed me!
Oh, but You have claimed me!

No matter how far I've gone,
Even to the devil's table.
Oh, my God, You've claimed me!
Oh, my God, You've claimed me!
(Chorus)

Through my wandering,
And my failing,
And my doubting, I belong!
Through the fire,
And the darkness,
Through the sadness, I belong!
I'm just a rebel,
Who's tired of fighting,
So I'm laying down these arms.
The Son is rising, the Son is rising,
The Son is rising!
(Chorus)

The Word Made Flesh:
Christology Statement
Based on Nicene Creed,
Definition of Chalcedon
325 A.D., 451 A.D.

We confess the mystery and wonder
of God made flesh
and rejoice in our great salvation
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

With the Father and the Holy Spirit,
the Son created all things,
sustains all things,
and makes all things new.
Truly God,
He became truly man,
two natures in one person.

He was born of the Virgin Mary
and lived among us.
Crucified, dead, and buried,
He rose on the third day,
ascended to heaven,
and will come again
in glory and judgement.

For us,
He kept the Law,
atoned for sin,
and satisfied God’s wrath.
He took our filthy rags
and gave us
His righteous robe.

He is our Prophet, Priest, and King,
building His Church,
interceding for us,
and reigning over all things.
Jesus Christ is Lord;
we praise His holy Name forever.
Amen.

Benediction

Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. + Ephesians 3:20-21
