Prayers for Jesus' Kingdom Impact in Worcester in 2018



Praying for Jesus' Powerful and Gracious Social, Cultural, and Spiritual Renewal to Transform Our City 


Sunday | Rest

We pray for God to give us grateful hearts that rest in His grace for us.

God, we need to daily rest in what Jesus has completely accomplished for us – saving us from the destruction our sins and selfishness bring on us and the world, and instead giving us Your mercy, redeeming us to know that we are worth the value of Jesus' very own life when He laid down His for us on the cross. Help us to learn how to work from resting in all that You have done rather than working to earn Your favor or anyone else's. May we thank You for who You made us to be and what You have invited us to do in the coming week, rather than being overburdened with what we didn't do the week before or what we think we have to do in the week ahead. Thank You that You make all things work together for good. Amen.

 

Monday | Identity

We pray for God to remind us that He is our Father through the Son by the Spirit.
  
God, remind us that we are Your loved and adopted sons and daughters. We turn away from the many things that draw us away from You. Bring us into Your arms and remind us that we are fully forgiven because You are faithful and just to forgive us when we ask You to. Resurrect Your love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control in us. Amen.

Tuesday | Family

We pray for God to unify us as His people in, of, and for Worcester.

God, help us love each other as family – that we would freely open our homes to each other and serve each other as Jesus loved and served others when He walked the earth. Pour out Your grace and forgive us again, and reveal how we can show grace and forgive each other again and again. May we continue to open our homes to friends and neighbors across our city, inviting them to discover You. Walk with us and invite many more to be part of Your family as we extend Your arms around Worcester. Amen.

Wednesday | Community

We pray for God to fill our homes with our neighbors and grow our love for our communities in word and deed.

God, help us to become followers of Jesus and City Groups that provide people and places in Worcester glimpses of what heaven on earth looks like. We want to share Your love with neighborhoods and communities throughout our city having compassion on them like Jesus did. Help us to walk alongside and befriend others where we live, work, and play, knowing that You walk with us. Help us to bridge cultures, ethnicities, businesses, and neighborhoods in Jesus' name. May we have the privilege to share and show Your Good News among people who don't look like us, talk like us, or act like us, but need Jesus just like us.

Thursday | City

We pray for God to make our work flourish so that it benefits and renews our beloved city

God, we never want to give up on the hope that You want to move in every area – socially, economically, culturally, environmentally, relationally, and spiritually – of Worcester. May we work hard and benefit the city. May we discover that understanding who You are and who we are is a renewal of the true meaning of liturgy – the good work You've given to humanity for the life of this world. Help us to work hard; we don't want to just give word service to this. We want to readily and regularly live our lives daily for the city, as individuals and as City Groups, rejoicing that Worcester is our home. May You move in our city to bring Your Kingdom come, Your will be done through us in our workplaces, parks, restaurants, shops, universities, and communities.

Friday | Spirit

We pray for God to equip us by His Word and Spirit to be stronger examples of the words, works, and ways of Jesus.

God, may Your Spirit convict us and lead us into all truth as Jesus promised. We need You to lead us in growing our wisdom and understanding of Your story in the Scriptures. Counsel us with wisdom that is richer and more detailed than our surface understanding, joy that is deeper than the temporary happiness we too often settle for, and peace that is bolder than the criticism and opposition we face externally and internally. We need Your courage when we grow tired of trying to be like Jesus because we've been filling up with the empty fuel of our own strength, instead of through Your love and power.

Saturday | Sacrifice

We pray for God to make us become more like Jesus together as we live our lives for the sake of Worcester so that the the Good News of His holy life, atoning death, resurrection, ascension, and sending of the Spirit for us, and His return to reconcile God with man and renew all of creation forever, would be understood and believed by many.

God, we look to Jesus and His sacrifice for how we should live for others, and trust Your Spirit can lead us in His footsteps. Thank You that You are with us during times of emotional, mental, or physical suffering. Help us to find in You more comfort than our desire to escape. And help us to join with others in their suffering, sacrificing our comfort so that we can point them to You who suffer with us and for us. Reveal Yourself to them and save them and their families. May Your Spirit keep us living in the abundant life Jesus gives us so we will continue to believe and share Your Good News with everyone we have the privilege to serve and love.

I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. + Ephesians 3:17-19

It is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. + Philippians 1:9-11

For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. + 2 Timothy 1:7

For (we are) looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God. + Hebrews 11:10
