First New Year Mass @ Home | Matthew 14:34-15:9: Jesus' No Cancel Culture in 2021

Cheers to not canceling compassion, curiosity, conviction, and closeness to Jesus and others in 2021.

Story of God Liturgy Flow | Creation, Crisis, Covenant Community, Christ, Church, (New) Creation

(1) Creation

Call to Worship | Psalm 147:12-15 + Our World Belongs to God (2)

Glorify the Lord, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion! For He has strengthened the bars of your gates and blessed your children within your walls. He sends peace across your nation and satisfies your hunger with the finest wheat. He sends His orders to the world—how swiftly His word flies!
One: From the beginning, through all the crises of our times, until the Kingdom fully comes, God keeps covenant forever:
All: Our world belongs to God! God is King: Let the earth be glad! Christ is victor: His rule has begun! The Spirit is at work: creation is renewed! Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!

Matt Maher, 2018 A.D.

Hear the angels sing, “There's hope for everyone!’
To announce our King, “There's hope for everyone!”
What Good News they bring, “There's hope for everyone!”
Angels sing, “There's hope for everyone!”
They came from afar, “There's hope for everyone!”
Wise men saw the star, “There's hope for everyone!”
Shepherds heard the choir, “There's hope for everyone!”
From afar, “There's hope for everyone!”

We are waiting on the promise
For the One who lights the darkness!
Bending low to be among us,
Bring Your glory in the highest, Jesus!

Come let us adore, “There's hope for everyone!”
On the manger floor, “There's hope for everyone!”
What are you waitin' for? “There's hope for everyone!”
Come adore, there's hope for everyone! (Chorus)

Coming on the clouds, there's hope for everyone!
Hear the trumpets sound, there's hope for everyone
All of heaven shouts, “There's hope for everyone!”
On the clouds, there's hope for everyone! (Chorus 2x)

Prayer of Confession + Assurance |
Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me, a sinner ...
(We turn to Jesus) He will wipe away every tear from our eyes and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore for the former things have passed away. And He who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new ... these words are trustworthy and true.” + Revelation 21:4-5

First New Year Homily Video | Jesus' No Cancel Culture in 2021

Homily Scriptures | Matthew 14:34-15:9

Other Pharisee Curiosity + Questions We Need |

+ Matthew 9:2-3: Do You dare forgive sins (i.e. Jesus are You able to cover all my guilt + shame)?
+ Matthew 9:11: Why do You eat w/ sinners (i.e. Jesus, how much room is there at Your table for me and others)?
+ Matthew 9:14: Why do Your disciples not fast (i.e. Why should we celebrate more with You, Jesus)?
+ Matthew 12:2: Why pluck grain on Sabbath (i.e. What is our rest for and who is the Giver of rest)?

Homily Quote |

New for the sake of new is as sterile as old for the sake of old. We are quick to judge "tradition," but man-made ideas come in old and new shapes and forms. In fact, these were new traditions of the Pharisees that undermined the ancient Word of God.
+ N.T. Wright

(4) Christ

Zach Williams, 2016 A.D.

If you've been walking the same old road for miles and miles,
If you've been hearing the same old voice tell the same old lies,
If you're trying to fill the same old holes inside,
There's a better life, there's a better life!

If you've got pain, He's a pain taker!
If you feel lost, He's a way maker!
If you need freedom or saving, He's a prison-shaking Savior!
If you've got chains, He's a chain breaker!

We've all searched for the light of day in the dead of night.
We've all found ourselves worn out from the same old fight.
We've all run to things we know just ain't right,
But there's a better life, there's a better life! (Chorus)

(5) Church

Maverick City Music, 2020 A.D. (original by Andrew Peterson, 2018 A.D.)

Do you feel the world is broken? (We do.)
Do you feel the shadows deepen? (We do.)
But do you know that all the dark won't stop
The light from getting through? (We do.)
Do you wish that you could see it all made new? (We do.)
Is all creation groaning? (It is.) Is a new creation coming? (It is.)
Is the glory of the Lord to be the Light within our midst? (It is.)
Is it good that we remind ourselves of this? (It is.)

Is anyone worthy? Is anyone whole?
Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll?
The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave,
He is David's root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave.
Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
Of all blessing and honor and glory?
Is He worthy of this? He is.

Does the Father truly love us? (He does.)
Does the Spirit move among us? (He does.)
And does Jesus, our Messiah, hold forever those He loves? (He does.)
Does our God intend to dwell again with us? (He does.)

Is anyone worthy? Is anyone whole?
Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll?
The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave,
He is David's root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave
From every people and tribe, every nation and tongue;
He has made us a kingdom and priests to God to reign with the Son! Is He worthy?
Is He worthy of all blessing and honor and glory?
Is He worthy? Is He worthy? Is He worthy of this? He is! He is!
Is He worthy? Is He worthy? He is! He is!
